Although it was built in the 1940's, it has electrical wiring but (to my knowledge) hasn't ever had an electrical fire, so it can't be too common, even if the critters do chew on the wires once in awhile. And his cabin was relatively 'civilized', unlike a lot of the deer-hunting shanties/cabins I hear about, which are undoubtedly infested with mice but I don't hear about them burning down with any regularity.Big Emnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3330328.post-59845593580954430042010-12-07T19:43:00.982-05:002010-12-07T19:43:00.982-05:00Big em, they only chew it when they are enlarging ...Big em, they only chew it when they are enlarging the hole in the stud drilled to run the wiring in the walls. I have seen a pile of mice bodies on the other side of a wall stud where they got electrocuted passing through the hole.Capt. I am a cabinet maker and remodeler and see this all too often. Just like Goopers, they are trying to burn down the house, even the one they live in.Capt. It'll be nice and quiet on a cold winter night and then...ominously... 'scratch-scratch'.... 'scratch-scratch-scratch'.... ' scuttle-scuttle-scratch-scratch'...etc/etc. I heard our first one the other night, but after I banged a broom-handle near the source of the sound, he stopped and I haven't heard him again, though I expect I will. But what do you do about them when they're high up in the walls or ceiling? You don't want to go around drilling holes and sticking poison in there cause then you have to fix the holes, which is arguably a bigger pain than listening to a mouse once in awhile. Plus I don't exactly like the idea of polluting the environment (especially the one surrounding me!) with poisons.Big Emnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3330328.post-66030351718927217782010-12-03T13:08:06.253-05:002010-12-03T13:08:06.253-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.maruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06719882642550170084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3330328.post-14625241729635162932010-12-03T13:08:04.921-05:002010-12-03T13:08:04.921-05:00heh. cockroaches, yes, but not the poor meeces!
