Al-Qeada must be REALLY 'top-heavy' with management -- they probably have a US management consultant advising them!
Re: California wildfires in Malibu & other canyons. The destruction caused by the wildfires (and, alternatively, the occasional heavy rainfall & ensuing mudslides) is a tribute to the apparent lack of any decent ZONING laws. If you're ever out there, take a look at those hills -- they're nothing more than semi-hard clay! The homes are often built on steep slopes with 'stilts' on the down-slope side, a recipe for trouble. I wouldn't build a tree-house in that area, much less some of these multi-million $$ homes!
It's a kind of magical thinking mixed with deep denial, big em. The populace creates illusions with music, shadows and light. Why should their everyday lives be any different? The fires are just special effects, right?
Yes Susan, you're probably right. Too much of CA is the triumph of hype over reality, but they DO have some really nice natural wonders (the ones that AREN'T burned) like Yosemite Park, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon, Muir Woods, and even Death Valley & the Mojave are impressive...
