House bill would extend protections to ex-vice presidents: Dick "dick" Cheney will continue to be shielded by the Secret Service at the taxpayer's expense for at least six months after his worthless, lying, possibly traitorous fat ass finally ceases degrading the office.

Well, it's only six months, it's been traditionally afforded veeps, and they can't protect him from a subpoena, you know?
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the AP article you've linked to erroneously says that all Presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for the remainder of their lives, if they so choose.
Well, they used to be, but the Republican-controlled congress in 1997, in a typical example of foot-shooting, changed all that, with a law that limits this protection to ten years after the Prez leaves office.
Unfortunately for them, this cannot be retroactively applied to presidents in office at or before the time the legislation was passed, so Bill Clinton, the putative target of this petty attempt to deny protection, was the last President to actually be guaranteed lifetime secret service protection.
Thus, so it shouldn't be a total loss, the good news: the first President this law applies to is chowderhead-in-chief Dubya.
If there was any ironic justice in this world, Bush & Cheney would both be 'extraordinarily rendered' to an 'undisclosed secure location' (that Cheney is so fond of fleeing to, being the brave chickenhawk that he is) in a secret prison in Egypt/Rumania/Poland/Israel or wherever, to live out their days being 'not-tortured' by waterboarding/hooding/sleep deprivation/savage dog intimidation/sexual humiliation.
