Blogger discovers new cloud type

Well, maybe. This was the sky outside my cube this afternoon -- pretty awesome! Anyone know what they're called? Besides Ominous Bands of Doom?

Submit your pics to the folks at www.spaceweather.com
They'll tell you all about what's happening.
It's also a good site for cool space related pics.

Stratus clouds. They get that undulating look when there's some type of wind shear aloft.

Spielbergostatus, named after the CGI cloud formations featured in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

At least that's what I've called 'em on those rare occasions they appear over Hollywood.

Yes, I'm serious. Well, serious as I get.
