Republicans try to save face as gay marriage ban seems doomed to failure
Analysts say the move could well backfire on Republicans.

The Senate's [rethug] leadership is struggling to contain political fallout from the expected failure of a vote this week seeking a controversial constitutional amendment that would ban homosexual marriage.

On Tuesday the Republicans found themselves blocking a vote on their own proposal, simply to keep it from facing an embarrassing defeat.

Facing dissent even within their own ranks, they appear to have shifted their focus to damage control.
"I don't know of a more important debate in our country's history," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, the typical clueless, hyperventilating rebooblican who obviously would be happy to go back in time to live in the stone age.

Further complicating the republicans' position is Lynne Cheney, wife of Dick, who told CNN on Sunday that the states should have authority over marriage laws.
