The construct Bush created to stop the 9/11 Commission
By monkeyfister -

This report was clearly the most feared election year event for the Bushies.

1.  He resisted the call for the investigation for as long as he could.

2.  Then, he calls for a bipartisan commission, but personnally appoints the members, and makes a partisan GOP majority. Bush went out of his way to limit the scope of the commission and demanded that the commission's mission is NOT to point fingers. To that end,

3.  He appoints Henry Kissinger as head of the commission. A man who can't leave the country for fear of arrest. A man known for his abilities in masterminding cover-ups. A man with known conflicts of interest.

4.  Bush then allowed the controversy to play-out before replacing him with good family friend Lee Hamilton. Another known whitewasher. All of this counted as time against the (abnormally short) 18 month timespan, and cost the commission money out of it's (abnormally small) 3 Million dollar budget. Ken Starr cost us $70 Million...

5.  Bush refused, after wasting over 6months (1/3) of the time, to grant an extension. When he did, it wasn't quid pro quo for the time lost, it was less, requests for a larger budget were turned down and Bush demanded that the report be turned in directly to them for vetting. Most assumed the vetting process would last until after the election. The White House stated repeatedly that they didn't want the report to be "a political football."

6.  He and the rest of the grown-up executives then proceeded to refuse to testify, delay testimony, reduce the scope of testimony, limit access to testimony, limit recording or transcribing testimony all in the name of "National Security", while they capriciously de-classified and/or leaked classified documents to sully or threaten their critics or other potential witnesses... This is a continuing practice.

7.  He went out of his way to discount the 9/11 widows, and had the media attack and/or diminish them relentlessly.

8.  Finally, the week the Report is due, they stir up a slew of fog, feces and distraction: Whoopi, Ronstadt, Berger, terror, everthing they could find to kick up. All over this one report.

What were they so afraid of? What is the White House hiding?
