Boy, I couldn't even finish the Hasselhoff version, especially after first listening to JR's classic. I used to really like that intro/exit music to Patrick McGoogan's "Secret Agent Man" show - - like Hawaii-50 also. The music was great but the shows were so-so.
The JR video was classic lip-synching... and those shows (ie; Shindig, Hullabaloo, American Bandstand, etc) never made much of a pretense of even pretending to have the same instruments on-camera! You could tell it was the same studio version of the song from the TV show.
Thanks for the 'geezer' nostalgia -- it took me back.
I saw a Simon Cowell (from American Idol) biography a few months ago that showed how he was David Hasselhoff's European tour manager back in the 80's or 90's -- whenever DH was popular there. Simon (for all his snide comments about wannabe singers) was talking glowingly about DH's stage presence! Weird.
You've tapped into my kidhood---go-go boots? Yes. Shindig. Yes. Hullabaloo? Yes. The Beatles at Shea? Parental units nixed.

Oh, man. Hoff, no offense there dude, but you can't pull off the "Secret Agent" thing without the kickass talking car. Just to let you know.
ReplyDeleteDavid Hasselhoff is to Germany as Jerry Lewis is to France.
