A lot more than 2,000 miles separated the Rockefeller estate from Southern Colorado when on Monday April 20, 1914, the first shot was fired at Ludlow. One of history's most dramatic confrontations between capital and labor -- the so-called Ludlow Massacre -- took place at the mines of the Rockefeller-owned Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I).

Ludlow is just down the road. I went to the anniversary get together last year and was surprised how many were there. Not many know of this and their goal is to raise awareness a bunch leading up to the 100th.

He and mom made certain that we knew of this, however, and understood to this day the politics behind it. They INSISTED we get and keep the knowledge of the events that took place @ Ludlowe, OneFly.
ReplyDeleteAs with Sand Creek not that far away most Americans know little about these killings. There was a speaker from the national UWW who had little to say about the union in NW Colorado who trumpet the message of the right wing. Far removed from where they should be.
