Homeland Security Reichsfuhrer's Aide Leaving - to spend more time with her family, perhaps?
With Senate Democrats continuing to pressure Tom Ridge over his refusal to testify publicly, the Homeland Security director's top Congressional liaison has left the Bush administration.
Becky Halkias, a longtime aide to the former Pennsylvania governor, recently departed from her post as Ridge's chief legislative affairs aide. Asked about Halkias' departure, Ridge spokesman Gordon Johndroe said, "She left to pursue other interests."
It is unclear if Halkias' departure was forced or voluntary, although one White House official said Halkias "was not a good fit" for the job.
Halkias' departure comes at an awkward time for Ridge, who is the middle of a slow-motion showdown with Senate Appropriations Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) over whether Ridge can be required to formally testify before Congress.
