Credibility gap widens yet again
A taped message believed to be from Osama bin Laden yesterday warned Arab nations against supporting a war against Iraq as threatened by the Bush misadministration - but branded Saddam Hussein an infidel.
U.S. officials said the tape was probably genuine, the strongest evidence so far that the incompetant don't-bug-me-when-I'm-playing Frogger Crusader Bunnypants STILL HAS NOT GOTTEN THIS GUY AS PROMISED, DEAD OR ALIVE.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher fudged and said the tape corroborated the allegations that Colin Powell made to the U.N. Security Council last week to justify U.S. threats to go to war against Iraq - that al Qaeda and the Iraqis were in contact and cooperating. That's like saying me and Viggo are going steady because I sent him a fan letter. If I had, I mean. F*ck. The statement did not express support for Saddam. It said Muslims should support the Iraqi people rather than the country's government.
In the tape, the speaker said Iraq was governed by socialist "infidels," including Saddam. But he said that it was acceptable for Muslims to fight on behalf of Iraqi "socialists" because "in these circumstances" their interests "intersect in fighting against the Crusaders," or Christians. "Anyone who helps America, from the Iraqi hypocrites (opposition) or Arab rulers ... whoever fights with them or offers them bases or administrative assistance, or any kind of support or help, even if only with words, to kill Muslims in Iraq, should know that he is an apostate," the speaker said. - links here and here.
