The US Ambassador to Belgium has sent an angry letter to the Belgian government, accusing it of blatantly supporting the Iraqi regime.
Stephen Brauer lashed out at the government for its refusal to seal off the Iraqi embassy or take steps against any Iraqi officials in the country.
Foreign Affairs Minister Louis Michel, who came out in support of France and Germany in early February, condemning a war in Iraq without UN approval, was said to be 'astonished' by the letter's content.
Michel reacted by pointing out that Belgium has always distanced itself from Sadam Hussein's dictatorial regime and that Iraqi assets within Belgium have been frozen since 1991 as part of a UN resolution. - snipped from here.
