Syrian Envoy calls U.S. accusation an 'insult'
More statesmanship from a humble nation.

Syria's ambassador to Spain on Tuesday called U.S. accusations an insult and criticized what he called U.S. blackmail. "They now have the oil, and the destruction of Iraq," Mohsen Bilal said.

Spain's foreign minister, Ana Palacio called the bellicose statements from Washington "unfortunate."

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, one of Bush's most loyal allies on Iraq, said "Syria has been and will be a friend of Spain. It will not be the target of any war actions. I am convinced that the conflict will not spread to other countries in the region."

The Arab League said on Tuesday that U.S. accusations that Syria was developing chemical weapons lacked credibility because the U.S. had yet to find the chemical weapons that they accuse Iraq of having. "Before even proving Iraq has weapons of mass destruction they are leveling accusations at Syria," said spokesman Hesham Youssef. "What a bunch of f*cking tools." - From here. More or less.
