"Today, I fear my own government more than I do terrorists "
"I do not feel safer now than I did six, or 12, or 24 months ago. In fact, I feel far more vulnerable and frightened than I ever have in my 50 years on the planet. It is the United States government I am afraid of. In less than two years the Bush administration has used the attacks of 9/11 to manipulate our fear of terrorism and desire for revenge into a blank check to blatantly pursue imperialist objectives internationally and to begin the rollback of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and most of the advances of the 20th century." - Jill Nelson, at MSNBC.

Gravitas and dignity: the grownups are in charge.
'They were just two world leaders playing boys with a new toy.

'George Bush took off his suit coat and slipped on his tailored pilot's bomber jacket and led Australian Prime Minister John Howard to the pointy end of his presidential jet. "They were just walking around with big smiles on their faces," said an Australian official on board. "You know that Harrison Ford movie, Air Force One? Well, the plane is exactly like that."

'One of the US officials said later Mr Bush had been "really pumped" during the flight, excitedly telling Mr Howard how he had helped fly an Air Force jet the previous day to land aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. There are times when even the putative "Leader of the Free World" can't resist the urge to let loose his inner boy.' - Ick. link.
