Warner changes his tune on banned weapons in Iraq
Saddam's dogs must've buried imminent threat to the US somewhere...yeah....
Virginia Sen. John 'Uhhhhhh...' Warner backed off Thursday from his earlier predictions that U.S. forces will uncover weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
"When we go in, a lot of smoking guns will be uncovered," Warner had vowed at a Feb. 24 news conference. But on Thursday, after returning from a three-day visit to Iraq, Warner was far more cautious in describing what troops are likely to find.
He said evidence will show soon that Saddam had an "infrastructure" that was capable of producing chemical and biological weapons, and that Iraq had the potential to use or export them.
"There's troubling evidence of exaggeration and stretching by the intelligence community," said Sen. Carl Levin, D-Functioningpenis, who accompanied Warner on this week's trip. "The accuracy and objectivity of that intelligence is under review, as it should be."
Levin added, "Nothing I saw on this trip changed my view of the troubling nature of that evidence."
"It's going to take additional time to uncover Saddam's programs," said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Flopsweat, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. "Not the product, but the programs. We are making progress. Every day we find another piece of the puzzle." - link.
