White House was warned over Iraq claim
Bush, enmeshed in uranium controversy, blames the Brits
From the BBC: The CIA warned the Bush Cartel that claims about Iraq's nuclear ambitions were not true months before Snippy the Chimp used them to make his case for war.
The White House, in a jawdroppingly infantile display of fingerpointing and passing the buck, is now saying the claim was based on bad intelligence information from the United Kingdom, where Bush's poor loyal lapdog, Tony 'Piddles' Blair is being accused of trumping up allegations to justify the invasion.
Doubts about a claim that Iraq had tried to buy uranium from the African state of Niger were aired 10 months before Bunnypants included the allegation in his key State of the Union address this year, a CIA official has told the BBC.
Democrats are demanding a full investigation into the intelligence that underpinned the case for war. They have demanded to know if pReznit Gameboy used evidence that he knew to be weak or wrong. "It ought to be the subject of careful scrutiny... with regard to what (pResident Bush) knew, what actions were taken, what statements were correct and which ones were incorrect," Senate Minority Leader Tom 'Isadora' Daschle weened on Tuesday from behind a potted palm.
The senior Democrat on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, John D Rockefeller, said he was not surprised the White House had been forced to admit the uranium allegations were false.
"The whole world knew it was a fraud," he said, adding that his committee should determine how the report found its way into the State of Union speech.
Congresseunuch Dick 'Fluffy' Gephardt - who is laughingly seeking the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2004 - also called for a wider investigation.
"President Bush's factual lapse in his State of the Union address can not be simply dismissed as an intelligence failure," he said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for my quilting class."
