Fairly unbalanced
The humorless nazis at the Faux Nooze Channel have sued Al Franken and his publishers to stop them from using the phrase "fair and balanced" in the title of Franken's upcoming book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.
Franken's "intent is clear - to exploit Fox News' trademark, confuse the public as to the origins of the book and, accordingly, boost sales of the book," the suit said. - WaComPo.
Rumors that Franken would countersue Fox in a truth-in-advertising complaint for proclaiming themselves "fair and balanced" could not be confirmed.
Supreme Court rules against Tom DeLay's bitches
"The all-republican Texas Supreme Court today dealt a body blow to the GOP-led drive to redraw the state's congressional boundaries by rejecting a plea from Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst that the justices order the 11 Democratic senators to end their holdout in New Mexico.
"'I think it means that the Supreme Court clearly saw the baselessness of the governor and lieutenant governor's gambit and did what courts are supposed to do: apply and enforce the law fairly and expeditiously," said Austin lawyer Renea Hicks, who represents Texas' Democratic congressmen.
"The court's decision came the same day as Democrats filed a federal lawsuit in Laredo alleging that the effort to redraw the 32 congressional boundaries violates the 1965 Voting Rights Act because the absence of the 21-vote tradition in the Senate silences minority voices." - from the Star-Telegram, Austin.
Man fined $10,000 for protesting war in Iraq
From the Mercury News:
MILWAUKEE - Ryan Clancy says he knew he could be punished for traveling to Iraq to protest the war there, but he had no idea how much the trip could ultimately cost. Authorities have fined the Milwaukee man $10,000 for violating sanctions prohibiting travel to and trade with Iraq. If the 26-year-old doesn't pay, he could spend up to 12 years in prison. "I have no intention whatsoever of paying any money for having gone over there and worked with children," said Clancy, who has an education degree from Beloit College. "It's a bizarre and arbitrary charge."
In a related story, VP Dick 'dick' Cheney and his "former" company Halliburton still unindicted for trading with Iraq.
