Rockets fired into central Baghdad
Bringin' 'em on.
From the WaComPo: Insurgents struck at the heart the United States command in Central Baghdad today, wounding at least three people as night fell in Iraq. A Pentagon spokesman said shells landed along the edge of the coalition compound. He did not yet know the extent of the injuries or whether or not the wounded were military or civilian.
The latest attacks in what is now a fierce and constant assault followed a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad earlier today, which killed another U.S. soldier.
"There were a lot of soldiers running around, there was a lot of panic. I haven't seen any injured people," an Iraqi guard at the complex said. It was the second night in a row that such explosions hit the downtown area. Monday night they caused no major damage or casualties.
These nearly non-stop attacks underscored the extent to which fighting is approaching war-like status. In the past 24 hours alone, coalition forces confronted an attack on the compound, the roadside bomb, a mortar attack in Baghdad, an attack in Mosul involving small arms and rocket propelled grenades, an assault on a police station in Mosul, and an explosion near a shrine in Karbala south of Baghdad.
Fun fact: the Bushies are quietly oiling up the draft machine. Reminder: Canada isn't all that far away! Jeebus.
