'Al-Yawer, a Sunni Muslim who has sharply criticised US policy in Iraq, will hold the largely symbolic post of president, while the more powerful position of prime minister goes to Allawi, a US-backed Shiite Muslim with military and CIA connections.'

In other Iraq news:

  • 25 killed as new president is announced.
  • The Iraqi governing council has disbanded.
  • At least 6 US troops are killed. Over 200 died in April/May alone.
  • Army "investigates" wider offenses, but none are by the WH.
  • Returning sovereignty? Puh. As if.
