Victims were dragged through the streets.

US weapons hunt shifts focus to 'intent'
The search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq will continue despite the failure to find them, but the taxpayer-funded death-fiasco mission will also investigate the possibility of whether or not Saddam may have intended to someday think about possibly developing some kind of plan to try to design such weapons, the Bushies said on Tuesday.

New polls are showing that the indolent assclown is continuing to get high marks for the war on terra. The f*cking sheep American people, brainwashed by the propaganda spewed out 24/7 by the WHore media, are happily drinking their Kool-Aid.

"From April, 2001 right up to 9/11, urgent warnings of impending large-scale attacks by terrorists went unheeded. The German intelligence agency warned in June that Middle Eastern terrorists were 'planning to hijack commercial aircraft to use as weapons to attack important symbols of American culture.' On June 13, Egypt warned that a plane stuffed with explosives could be used as a weapon. Vladimir Putin was so certain of the information he received in the summer of 2001 that he personally instructed Russian intelligence to tell Bush 'in the strongest possible terms' of an impending attack involving airports and government. In August, 2001, the Israel's Mossad warned that as many as 200 al Qaeda members were infiltrating the US and planning 'a major assault on the US' against 'a large-scale target' in a setting where Americans would be 'very vulnerable.'"

Out-nixoning Nixon:

On the terrorism front, here's one story that deserves special mention. One of the few successful post-9/11 terror prosecutions - a case in Detroit - seems to be unraveling. The government withheld information from the defense, and witnesses unfavorable to the prosecution were deported (by accident, the government says). After the former lead prosecutor complained about the Justice Department's handling of the case, he suddenly found himself facing an internal investigation - and someone leaked the fact that he was under investigation to the press.

Other former Washington insiders support Clarke's criticism
Nostril rapings, beheadings to begin at dawn tomorrow.

Clarke, in his book, echoes other accounts, such as Ron Suskind's book on former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, that key administration officials appeared unduly focused on Iraq in the months before the Sept. 11 attacks -- and then leaped to the conclusion that Iraq was somehow involved.

Clarke's complaint resonates with some other former administration officials. Rand Beers, who served as counterterrorism chief after Clarke, has voiced the same complaint and is now foreign-policy adviser to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

Flynt Leverett, a former CIA analyst and Middle East specialist who left Bush's National Security Council staff a year ago, also agrees.

"Clarke's critique of administration decision-making and how it did not balance the imperative of finishing the job against Al-Qaida vs. what they wanted to do in Iraq is absolutely on the money,'' Leverett said.

Disclosure game works both ways, dickheads
When Faux Nooze asked permission to reveal Richard Clarke as the source of a 2002 briefing, the White House broke precedent and agreed to let them do so.

The public was no doubt served by the disclosure.

It's useful, then, that the president and his staff are willing to serve the public interest by releasing journalists of their obligation to protect confidential White House sources. There's one more way for the administration to serve that interest. Release Robert Novak and five other capital reporters of any obligation to withhold the names of the "two senior administration officials" who told them that Valerie Plame was a CIA operative, in what appeared to be an attempt to punish Plame's husband, retired Ambassador Joseph Wilson IV, for debunking the president's Nigerian yellow-cake claim.

'As National Security Advisor to the pResident of the United States, wtf were you thinking????'*
Boy, Condoliar Rice did not come across well at all on the 60 Minutes interview last night. While she didn't have that pissy must-control-fist-of-death look plastered all over her smarmy phiz, she reeked of evasiveness, arrogance, and bullshit. This exchange in particular made me want to hurl:

Yeah. And I hope he hears from them loud and clear in November.

Condi lies again
'White House allies and Republicans investigating the Sept. 11 attacks pressed Sunday to hear open testimony from national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, with one commissioner calling her refusal a "political blunder of the first order."

'Rice said she wants to testify publicly, but is constitutionally barred from doing so' - which is horsehockey. She could if her bosses in the WH gave their OK. But they're too chickenshit to do so.

''This is mostly about politics, not about the legalities,'' said Michael Gerhardt, a constitutional law professor at the College of William and Mary who specializes in separation of powers. ''There's not much they can point to as settled law to prevent this. This is a matter of political judgment, not legal judgment. ... It hasn't kept her from talking to the press.''

'Declassify all of it'
Tim, you ignorant slut...

And I want more declassified. I want Dr. Rice's testimony before the 9-11 Commission declassified, and I want the thing that the 9-11 Commission talked about in its staff report this week declassified, because there's been an issue about whether or not a strategy or a plan or something useful was given to Dr. Rice in early January. And she says it wasn't. So we now have the staff report of the 9-11 Commission, and it says, "On January 25th, Clarke forwarded his December strategy paper to the new national security adviser, and it proposed covert action to the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, significantly increasing CIA funding, retaliating for the USS Cole, arming the Predator aircraft, going after terrorist fund raising."

- Richard Clarke on Meet the Presstitute with WH shill Tim Russert.

Then it was Judy '.......' Woodruff's turn:

WOODRUFF: Let me quickly turn you, though, back to President Clinton. You talk in your book, "Against All Enemies," about the fact that President Clinton, that there were steps that he took, that he could have done more.

Was the Monica Lewinsky scandal one of the reasons President Clinton couldn't pursue a war against terror on a more sustained basis?

CLARKE: I think it probably was. And here's why I think that. George Tenet, Sandy Berger and I went to the president and said, "We think bin Laden is going to be at a certain location in Afghanistan at a certain time." And Clinton said, "Fine, let's blow it up." And he fired a lot of cruise missiles at that location, apparently just missing bin Laden.

The reaction of the American people was not, "Great job, you're fighting terrorism with military force," something previous presidents had not done. It was, "Wag the dog," meaning, you're using this to divert attention from your own personal and political problems. ...

If you look, beginning in 1996, in his last four years in office, President Clinton gave about 40 speeches where he mentioned terrorism, five speeches that were devoted just to terrorism. He did a lot, but, frankly, if you look at the media play on those speeches, the media didn't pick up those speeches. When he made a speech on terrorism, it wasn't on the front page, it wasn't on CNN.

And now we turn to hypocrite and kitten-killing douchebag Senate majority leader Bill Frist: "I personally find this to be an appalling act of profiteering, of trading on insider access to highly classified information, and capitalizing upon the tragedy that befell this nation on September the 11th."

To that, what else is there to say but oh yeah???

Uh-huh
"During the first week in July I (2001) I convened the CSG and asked each agency to consider itself on full alert. I asked the CSG agencies to cancel summer vacations and official travel for the counterterrorism response staffs." - Richard Clarke, Against All Enemies, p. 236.

Misadministration focuses on creating "Western White House" logo for Smirky McChimp, golfcart wrangler.

Some sources who have read the still-secret congressional report say some sections would not play quite so neatly into White House plans. One portion deals extensively with the stream of U.S. intelligence-agency reports in the summer of 2001 suggesting that Al Qaeda was planning an upcoming attack against the United States —and implicitly raises questions about how Bush and his top aides responded.

One such CIA briefing, in July 2001, was particularly chilling and prophetic. It predicted that Osama bin Laden was about to launch a terrorist strike “in the coming weeks,” the congressional investigators found. The intelligence briefing went on to say: “The attack will be spectacular and designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests. Attack preparations have been made. Attack will occur with little or no warning.”

The substance of that intelligence report was first disclosed at a public hearing last September by staff director Hill. But at the last minute, Hill was blocked from saying precisely who within the Bush White House got the briefing when CIA director Tenet classified the names of the recipients. (One source says the recipients of the briefing included Bush himself.) As a result, Hill was only able to say the briefing was given to “senior government officials.”

Meanwhile...

The White House announced that indolent punk pReznit Privilege would stay at his photo-op tick farm in Crawford Texas from Aug. 4 (2001) through Labor Day on Sept. 3, a record-breaking 31-day stretch.

And, from Aug. 15, 2001...

Dick 'dick' Cheney 'took time off from his month-long vacation Monday to outline his plans for August in Jackson Hole and to reflect on "an amazing year."'

Yeah, congratulations, bunghole.

Bush's efforts to offset Clarke stymied
'President Bush's intense efforts to neutralize the revelations of former national security official Richard Clarke have yet to succeed, leaving White House officials struggling to regain political momentum after a tumultuous week, according to interviews with Republicans both inside and outside the administration,' reports the WaPo.

Needing to regroup, the lazy lying punk is spending the weekend at his Texas fleapit, the Lazy W, 'before heading into a week built around celebrations of achieving a campaign treasury of $170 million, a political record.'

Running scared

The swiftness and ferocity of the Bush White House's attack on Richard Clarke tells you two things: his story may be largely true, and the Bush administration is terrified that the American people will believe it.

The White House did not let a single news cycle go by before questioning that the alleged encounter between the president and Clarke had ever taken place, assigning dark motives to a man who has served four presidents, three of them Republicans.
But there were other witnesses to the meeting, one a former national security council official was too terrified of the misadministration to go on the record (via Blah3).
