Editorial: Pols used Schiavo for their personal gain
"Bill Frist is a quack as a doctor, and the worst kind of panderer."
[T]he autopsy results stand as a final rebuke to all the politicians who used and abused a hopelessly injured woman to their own ends.
There were the Republicans, bowing to their religious-right base, who seemed to think granting Terri Schiavo’s wish about how she wanted to live and die would be the worst legal atrocity since Roe v. Wade. Led by Sen. Frist, President Bush, his brother Jeb, the governor of Florida; and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, they would stop at nothing to thwart Michael Schiavo’s attempts to fulfill his wife’s request.
There were the Democrats, who for the most part stood silently, shamefully by and did nothing as the most radical extremists hijacked the public debate and public policy.
The events of those weeks were shameful.
