White House sought to downplay the issue of Koran desecration
Guantanamo prisoners exaggerate, hate us for our freedom.

"It is unfortunate that some have chosen to take out of context a few isolated incidents by a few individuals," WH spokestool Scott McClellan said in a statement.

Joe Lockhart, former press secretary for President Bill Clinton, said when a news organisation - such as Newsweek - makes a factual mistake, Bush White House officials try to discredit the entire story.

"I think, on this issue, they fell into a trap," Lockhart said. "They saw a way to push back on a damaging story by making it look like it was just out-of-control journalists, and now they've had to admit that it has happened."

Par for the course, McClellan declined to answer questions about whether the White House issued misleading statements, or whether the credibility of the Bush misadministration had been tarnished.

Fun fact: WH mouthpiece the Whore Street Journal (link requires registration) thinks that "only five cases" of Koran "mishandling" is nothing to excited about. So one guard pissed all over the holy book when he demonstrated poor or questionable toilet procedures - geez. We're usually so respectful of other cultures...

US troops enjoy some fun and games while waiting for their breakfast of Freedom Toast.
