Elsewhere, Keepin' us Safer . . . .

CNN ["America's most trusted" - no, um, "fair and" - wait, no, I've got it - "Catapulting the Propaganda!"] is reporting that the week's off to a violent start in Iraq, with dozens dead:

1) Khalis: Gunmen open fire in a crowded bus station; four dead, three wounded.

2) A road between KJhalis and Baquba: Gunmen fire into a car, killing an Iraqi police officer and wounding another occupant.

3) Baquba: "Three bullet-riddled bodies" found; one was another Iraqi police officer.

4) Muqdadiya: Gunment kill another three people.

5) Baghdad: Within half an hour, two roadside bombs exploded, killing three and wounding seven (six of whom were Iraqi police).

6) Southeast Baghdad: An hour after the previous two attacks, a roadside bomb wounded three Iraqi police officers on patrol.

7) Southeast Baghdad, one hour later: A car bomb wounds seven, including four Iraqi police officers.

8) Northern Baghdad: Three dead and six wounded (including one soldier) in "clashes" between Iraqi soldiers and gunmen.

9) Baghdad, various: Police found "26 bullet-riddled bodies" scattered throughout the city, some bearing evidence of torture.

10) Suwayra: A car bomb explodes in an outdoor market; hospital officials report nine dead and 35 wounded.

11) Al-Anbar Province: Two U.S. Marines killed "during operations."

12) Baghdad: Bomb hits U.S. soldier's vehicle, killing him.

And that's just since yesterday afternoon.

Out of twelve attacks in the past 24 hours, six - that's half, folks - including dead or wounded Iraqi cops. Anyone noticing a pattern here?

Jesus wept.
