The Dictator-tot and his totalitarian misadministration have "shifted their position" and now say they will seek approval from an independent panel of federal judges before wiretapping phones or monitoring emails.
Bush's pet attorney general Alberto Gonzales announced the change on the eve of his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, his first since the committee came under control of Democrats after the November elections.Indeed, says an editorial in the NY Times: "The president’s decision hardly ends this constitutional crisis. Among other things, the public needs to know why Bush broke the law for more than five years."
The ACLU, which sued the government over the program, called the Justice Department's announcement "a quintessential flip-flop."
"The NSA was operating illegally and this eleventh-hour ploy is clearly an effort to avoid judicial and congressional scrutiny," said ACLU executive director Anthony Romero. "Despite this adroit back flip, the constitutional problems with the president's actions remain unaddressed."
