Global warming causing kitten population explosion
Though I'm only half kidding, I wish some would explode around here. And I mean that in a good way. Tigger, our pet stray cat that gave us Egon, Effie, Milo, Spice, Ozzy and Berry, died March 3rd.
Cat owners let their pets outside when it's mild and keep them indoors when it's cold. So the moderate temperatures of recent fall and early winter seasons translates into more opportunities to breed and wander off.I miss kittens.
Female cats come into heat every few weeks until they mate and can become pregnant again even if they're nursing kittens. With a gestation period of about two months, a cat could potentially have as many as three litters a year.
Feral cats that live outside on their own are also adding to the numbers, Oliver said. Their lifespan is usually three to four years but when the weather is less harsh, they live longer and breed more, he said.

I have about 3 of them, 8 weeks old, (Mom has moved on), who showed up in my basement. I could Fed-Ex them to you.
I've been reading your blog for a while and have found your references and photos of cats entertaining in the past. I'm a "cat person" and have two of my own. But lately you've gone overboard with this catshit and it's become tiresome. Throttle back a little would you, could you please.
I must take issue with "anonymous" about the volume of catitude on this here blog. More kiddens, I say!
Got a couple scrawny boonie kittens wandering around my shop and house now. Won't let me within 20 feet or so, but seem to be getting closer all the time.
Usually, any cat will walk up and jump on my lap. Then fall asleep.
Cats know Leos. There's a grey stripie, and an orange, and one more that is real skittish. Haven't got good look yet, but whitish...
Hey, no mice or rats around here!!
There's nothing like a kitty-kiss with a major purr machine running.
That.... brings back a lot of memories.
Most of our cats back in NC were foundlings; they were almost all throwaways. It was the same deal in my case: mom would breed, we'd find the kittens. And since I'm a total sucker for furpeople, guess who would end up keeping them. :)
I stopped letting my cats outside about a decade ago. Every one I've had has been neutered, but they would suddenly "disappear" mysteriously and I would never see them again. It's just too risky to let them roam. (That and I live in WI now; we're famous for the jackass who wanted to declare "open season" on feral cats about two or three years ago. Thankfully, our governor killed that idea.)
And keep up the cat stuff, please. It makes me smile quite a bit. Trust me, I need a reason to smile nowadays.
I agree, I appreciate the mix of cat pix and politics, perfect for me...
Hey, it's your blog, Maru. I think you should include whatever the hell you please. And fuck anybody trying to tell you what to do.
I figure, I don't pay any subscription so Maur's blog is Maru's blog and I take it as it is presented. And by the way.. I like it.
So very sorry to hear about Tigger. There have been quite a few bloggers who have lost kitties recently.
As to "too many kitties", blow it out your @** anonymous. One can never have enough of the little guys.
