'Conservative Republican senators are complaining loudly and publicly'
"'Don't ask me to put whipped cream on that turd pile,'" is what Hill Republicans are telling the White House about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, according to a former Republican aide.
"Last time we went out and defended one of your guys, you let him go. And now you want us to do what?" is the thinking of Republican lawmakers, refering to their staunch defense of Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld, right up until President Bush dumped the defense secretary after his party's midterm election losses.
The question now is how many hours it will be before Gonzales resigns.

You haven't seen snarky smackdown till you've seen Maru in action.
I'd bet that if the Democrats hadn't won in November, Rummy would still be "staying the course". Alberto will be at George Walker Bush's (please forgive my profanity) side until Bush has no other choice but to send him packing.
