Grblthngggg
You have a raging, agonizing abcess in your gum. Do you
a) rip the offending tooth out of its rotting socket with a pair of pliers
b) poke around with a large-bore needle hoping to hit the pus-pocket, dreaming of the moment when steaming, stinking gobs of a yellowish-white cheesy substance comes spewing out under high pressure or
c) follow a dentist-prescribed regimen of antibiotics and try not to eat or drink anything hot, cold or warm by taking your martini IV?

I'd go with 'C'...
I'd go for a combination of b and c, with emphasis on the martini IV. The alcohol will kill any bacteria and make you feel so lovely....
'a' wouldnt work for me as I wear bifocals and would probably yank the wrong tooth.
'b' has a certain entertainment value but I'm not that hard up yet.
'c' would probably make my dentist happy as I havent had any cavities for the past twenty years and he cant make any money off me.
I really hope this is a rhetorical question, Maru. If not, follow your dentist's advice and be sure to make the IV a double. :(
Yeah, I had two infected wisdom teeth pulled out. Not fun. But still, better than the old days of the Roman Empire, where the dentist threw you on the floor, had a couple of thugs hold you down, and ripped it out with pliers. (I got that from "Household Gods" by Judith Tarr and Harry Turtledove. A good novel to read while you're recovering.)
Blue Jean
Screw the martinis. If it's really that bad, you should be able to talk your dentist out of a prescription for some primo drugs.
Definitely b and c. B for the entertainment value, and c because alcohol is a disinfectant, cns depressant, and general source of good feeling. And, like anonymous said, go get some primo drugs for the cocktail effect.
Having done all three, I'll recommend 'C'.
Antibiotics, percocet, and martinis it is then!
: D
Screw percocet... I'd go with some morphine myself. (Had to have an abcessed wisdom tooth yanked about nine years ago; I wanted to put a bullet between my eyes.)
