Rule of law
Another great "Justice" Department moment: a follow-up to divageek's post --

James Comey, the straight-as-an-arrow former No. 2 official at the Justice Department, yesterday offered the Senate Judiciary Committee an account of Bush administration lawlessness so shocking it would have been unbelievable coming from a less reputable source.
Abu Gonzales hounded then-Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft while he lay drugged and seriously ill in the hospital, to try and get him to authorize the Dictator-tot's illegal spying program.
The Boy King's warrantless wiretapping program was so questionable that a top Justice Department official refused for a time to reauthorize it, sparking a standoff with top White House officials that culminated at the bedside of an ailing attorney general, a Senate panel was told Tuesday.

Former Deputy Attorney General James Comey testified Tuesday that when he refused to certify the program, Gonzales and [Andy] Card headed to Ashcroft's sickbed in the intensive care unit at George Washington University Hospital.

When Gonzales appealed to Ashcroft, the ailing attorney general lifted his head off the pillow and in straightforward terms described his views of the program, Comey said.
"What the fuck?? Are you guys fucking high???" Ashcroft reportedly thundered before lapsing into a coma.

Fucked fact: it was so bad that Comey, Ashcroft, FBI Director Robert Mueller and other Justice Department officials considered resigning, Comey said.

Fun fact: Gonzales has "lost the moral authority" to lead the Justice Department, Senator Chuck Hagel says. "He's pissed on the Constitution for the last time, if I have anything to say about it."

Holy crap, did you ever thing we'd see the day when ASHCROFT was the one doing the right thing (well, he was in a drugged stupor but once he came out of it he didn't go along with their wiretapping crap). Wow.
