Making significant progress
"The intractable insurgency shows no sign of abating."
An internal US military assessment indicates that three months after the beginning of a troop surge in Baghdad, they control fewer than one-third of the city’s neighborhoods, far short of the initial goal for the operation.Surge! In casualties!
The operation “is at a difficult point right now, to be sure,” said Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, the deputy commander of the First Cavalry Division, which has responsibility for Baghdad. In an interview, he said that while military planners had expected to make greater gains by now.
"Well, it’s no secret that those who opposed the war the strongest are disappointed. They should be, but not because the troops won’t be coming home. They will. The Surge is a temporary surge in force strength. It is not an indefinite escalation or even a sustainable one. The troops surged to Baghdad will be coming home" -- except for the ones who are fucking dead, you flaming imbecilic touchhole.... "and they will not be replaced." Uh-huh.
Sixteen American troops have died in Iraq in the first three days of June. A 17th US soldier, Staff Sgt. Juan Campos, died Friday in a military hospital in Texas, according to local news reports there. He had been injured by a roadside bomb near Baghdad in May.In another sign we're making significant progress, retired Army Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, commander of the coalition forces during the first year in Iraq, says the United States can forget about winning the war and that America has "a crisis in leadership." Well, there goes his pension.
Oh, and those 2 US soldiers that have been missing since last month? They're most likely dead too.
"Mlphphhhh. Mglggh bbbbll blllglphrr."
