I have never felt less like celebrating the 4th of July

Presidunce Awol McGameBoy on Wednesday defended the US military buildup in Iraq in a "patriotic" Fourth of July speech, saying victory will require "more patience, more courage and more sacrifice," prior to returning to the White House to watch fireworks and celebrate his birfday.
Fuckhead.

The preznit plays a round of golf at Arlington, 7/4/07.

I agree, maru. The term independence day no longer has any meaning.

The only thing I'm celebrating today is that this country has survived Bush and his nasty thugs. So far.

my fourteen year old nephew said, "i don't know why we're celebrating the fourth of july. there's still a tyrant named george with his foot on our necks trying to strip us of our liberty." my seven year old niece said, george bush doesn't care about black people. all he cares about are old, rich, white guys like himself. i don't like him." i love my niece and nephew. two more for our side!

i felt the same way, maru, watching the fireworks over the mississippi. it was just like a fleeting moment of profound sadness... because you knew what the big bangs in the sky were meant to represent. because you knew all the people who had died over all these years, only to bring us to this point in our history. because you knew this was not the same country they gave their lives to protect.
