David Gergen: "AWOL cokehead high again"
Ex-Nixon advisor blasts Bush's Vietnam comparison
"By invoking Vietnam, he raised the automatic question, 'Well, if you've learned so much from history, Mr. President, how did you ever get us involved in another quagmire?' It's surprising to me that he would go back to that, and I think he's going to get a lot of criticism," Gergen stated. And from the horses's ass himself -- Awol vonBunnypants was against the Vietnam war comparison before he was for it. From April 2004:
"This is not a man who's talking about compromise," Gergen should have emphasized. "This is not a man who's talking about a Plan B. There is no Plan B. This a man saying, 'I'm being a resolute fucking stubborn dorkwad.
"[That idiot] talks black and white," Gergen concluded. "Victory or withdrawal, those are his two options. And Democrats and Republicans are saying, 'Hey, asswipe, there is a third option here, and that is a partial pullback. Stay there, try to prevent a civil war.' ... Today, there was no indication he was willing to do that. The fucking twat."
QUESTION: Mr. President, April is turning into the deadliest month in Iraq since the fall of Baghdad, and some people are comparing Iraq to Vietnam and talking about a quagmire. Polls show that support for your policy is declining and that fewer than half Americans now support it. What does that say to you and how do you answer the Vietnam comparison?Jes' look at whut's happening in the Yoonited States! And in June 2006:
BUSH: I think the analogy is false. I also happen to think that analogy sends the wrong message to our troops and sends the wrong message to the enemy. Look, this is hard work. It's hard to advance freedom in a country that has been strangled by tyranny.
QUESTION: Do you see, as some of your critics do, a parallel between what's going on in Iraq now and Vietnam?Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
BUSH: No.
