FBI director's notes contradict Gonzales's version of Ashcroft visit
Bush's attorney general caught in yet another lie. Gee. Go figure.
Ashcroft was "in no condition to see them, much less make decisions to authorize continuation of the program."
[Just like the preznit for which he served, t]hen-Attorney General John Ashcroft was “feeble” and “barely articulate” moments after a hospital room confrontation in March 2004 with Alberto Gonzales, who wanted Ashcroft to approve a warrantless wiretapping program over Justice Department objections, according to notes from FBI Director Robert Mueller that were released yesterday. […]Steve at C 'n' L adds "Gonzales publicly testified (remember, lying to Congress is a crime) that Ashcroft was cogent and communicating what Gonzales and Card when to his hospital room to take advantage of him. James Comey has already testified under oath that Gonzales was lying, and now FBI Director Mueller is confirming Comey’s account."
Mueller’s description of Ashcroft’s physical condition that night contrasts with testimony last month from Gonzales, who told the Senate Judiciary Committee that Ashcroft was “lucid” and “did most of the talking” during the brief visit.
Ummmmm, Dems?? Anyone? Buehler?

See, what ya'll fail to understand is that Ashcroft would have agreed to authorize this B.S., only he didn't want it to affect his private company after leaving his govt office, so they arranged it so that he would look like he was innocent because he was in the hospital at the time and it gives them an excuse to let him off easy, sose he can go on ahead and make milllions in his private company contracts with the DHS. Otherwise, ya'll understand, Ashcroft's private company would be in BIG TROUBLE right now.
