Poll: Young voters disenchanted with the Republicant Party

A Democracy Corps poll from the firm of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner suggests voters ages 18 to 29 have undergone a striking political evolution in recent years. Young Americans have become so profoundly alienated from Republican ideals on issues including the war in Iraq, global warming, same-sex marriage and illegal immigration that their defections suggest a political setback that could haunt Republicans 'for many generations to come,' the poll said.

I HOPE they're right about the Republicans losing the young voters 'for many generations to come', but I'm still trying to get over the way that SO many (not ALL, but TOO many) of my 60's generation sold out as soon as they got to the family stage of life. After all, it was pretty much we baby-boomers who elected Nixon, Reagan, & W, and that was even AFTER we saw what shitheads the Republicans were in the 60's with their virtually unanimous (excepting Mark Hatfield and one or two others) rabid support for Vietnam while 50,000 US young people died and 2-3 MILLION Vietnamese. Here's hoping the next generation can stay committed longer...

I think the introduction of same-sex marriage has varied by jurisdiction, resulting from legislative changes to marriage laws, court challenges based on constitutional guarantees of equality, or a combination of the two.
