The Dirty Hippies Were Right, Part 4,520

The Wise Old White Men of Washington now admit the dirty fucking hippies (tm) were right all along.

I just love watching Chris Matthews and Howard Fineman and the rest of these Village gasbags blithely discussing Alan Greenspan's pronouncement that the Iraq war was all about oil as if it's always been just so obvious. It's not even controversial except that it's Alan Greenspan who said it, which they seem to find tittilating. But now they go on and on about how America runs on oil and that wars are fought over resources (even though it's a "Marxist" argument *shudder*.)

Well, no shit. It was always obvious and there were a whole bunch of people who told the truth about that from the very beginning and were vilified as traitors, naifs, terrorist sympathizers and worse by these oh-so-jaded commentators who are discussing it now with all the emotion they used when they ordered their lunch today.

...

Instead, Alan Greenspan says from on high that the war in Iraq is about oil and even after five years of shoving shrill neocon sanctimony and intimidation about WMD and terrorism and "Demaaahcracy" down our throats, the whole goddamned town nods its head and says, "of course, everyone knows that." Arrrgh.
Any educated person, whether they supported the war or not, knew it was always about the oil from the start of this mess. The Whores of Washington went to great lengths, however, to tell everyone else who would listen that the sky was green, that we were the good guys that would never involve ourselves in such nasty business... even though, yeah, it was probably in our long-term national security interest as long as we remain committed to crude oil until the last barrel is sucked out of the ground. But, yeah, that was just a minor convenience.

This war was about Little Brown Men with nuclear warheads aimed at our cities, they screamed. It was about saving some Little Brown Women and Children from an evil evil man... and yes, there are a lot of of evil evil men around the world fucking over a lot of people in much the same way... but this is different... because of, uhm... oh yeah, 9/11!!

It's maddening now to watch them react to Greenspan as if the past six years had never happened. They sneered at all us dirty fucking hippies who had the audacity to question Father Bush's noble motives.

It's even more maddening watching Greenspan pretend he wasn't sucking at the balls of father bush for the length of his tenure, as if he hadn't told us his reckless tax cuts would be great for all of us--the greatest trickle down evah. As if he had ever spoken up about fucking anything Father Bush did while he still held the U.S. economy in the palm of his withered little old man hands.

He didn't.

Exactly JC! Now that Greenspan (the hack supporter of Milton Friedman & friends, who provided the economic underpinning of the Neo-cons) has sanctified the obvious -- AND enough families have lost sons/daughters in Iraq, as well as humungous amounts of money being spent so that we can be up-close-and-personal to the Iraq civil war we helped foment -- now the pundits portray it all as 'conventional wisdom'! Unconscionable assholes! (note: www.FAIR.org has a LOT of info about this also..)

The pundits chronic 'shifting perspective' is one of the main reasons I pass those shows by on TV like I do info-mercials (or "paid-programming' as they euphemistically describe it). There's virtually NO truth to be learned by watching either of them -- you might as well watch bowling for all the useful political info you pickup.

Yes, Greenspan is a pig but.......
He served as Fed Chairman for less that half of Reagan's time in office, for four years under father Bush, six years under the chimp. Under which president did he serve for 8 years? Hint – it's the same president who started the juggernaut of free trade we are now experiencing that has sent, literally, millions of American jobs to China and India. The same president who signed the NAFTA treaty into law.

Nicolo, why do people bring up Clinton like he's the stake to drive through the vampire heart of American liberalism? Does anyone with half a brain still think Clinton WAS a liberal? Hell, his treatment of Monica Lewinsky ought to have been one big ole clue-bomb. Here are a couple of hints for you: (1) Any politician who treats feminism like a "fringe issue" is not, in fact, a liberal. (That goes for non-politicians as well.) (2) Merely supporting legalized abortion does not, in fact, make you a feminist OR a liberal. All it makes you is a guy who wants to get away with irresponsible sexual behavior. Nothing at all liberal about that.

Bill Clinton was the best Republican the Democrats ever elected.
