The US doesn't torture!

We prefer to call it "freedom coercion."

The best rethuglican defense of Bush's torture policies yet: It's not torture because we stop hurting them when they tell us what we want to hear:

White House homeland security adviser Frances Townsend also dismissed objections to the CIA program yesterday, saying that al-Qaeda members are trained to resist harsh interrogations. She said that “we start with the least harsh measures first” and stop the progression “if someone becomes cooperative.”

Sounds like the criteria used by The Spanish Inquisition and most other political tortures - - stop when you hear what you want to hear (whether it's plausible or not is another question..)
