The White House is blocking a probe of the taxpayer-funded $736m boondoggle in Iraq. No, the other one.
The Accountability misAdministration is blocking an inquiry into the massive suckhole that is the 736-million-dollar US embassy/fortress-city in Baghdad. In other words, situation normal: all fucked up.
Henry Waxman, chairman of the House oversight committee, asked worthless US secretary of state Condoliar Rice Friday to explain why her department certified the embassy as "substantially completed" in December despite inspections that reveal continued deficiencies in the facility's water, fire alarm, air conditioning, sewage, electrical, safety and kitchen systems.
The Baghdad embassy, the largest US diplomatic facility in the world, had an original opening date of mid-2007. But the project stalled amid ballooning cost estimates as well as charges of corruption and shoddy work by the BFEE's private contracting company overseeing the project.
In addition, two US state department employees who worked on the embassy project are now under criminal investigation.
