Not that there's anything wrong with that

Some guy says manly rethug icon and former NRA prez "Charlton Heston turned me gay." Yes, more childish giggling has ensued.

"You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God DAMN you all to hell!" (from "Planet of the Apes" - quote source: "www.IMDB.com")

My personal favorite Charleton Heston line. That was such an excellent, surprise ending -- one of the best movie endings ever. Not being gay, I can't speak to CH's 'gay-turning powers', but as the link alludes to, he seemed to like to show his naked butt often enough, as I recall seeing him do it also in "The Swimmer" as well as "Planet of the Apes". Of course that was the rebellious 60's and partial nudity was a big thing in the mainstream movies back then as I recall.

Charlton Heston, the erstwhile John Carter, was once referred to, in a review of his performance in a local play by an LA Times reviewer, as "a mindless hunk of beef".

Truer words were never spoken.

Back in the mid-nineties, Chuck and Gore Vidal traded a hilarious series of insulting letters in the LA Times, and I don't even remember who fired the first shot.

But they had the whole town laughing for weeks, because Vidal revealed that the relationship between Judah Ben Hur and his boyhood friend Massala had been rewritten, with the blessing of director William Wyler and knowledge of actor Stephen Boyd, to imply a homosexual relationship, without letting Heston in on it, because it was agreed he'd "fall apart" if he knew.

Heston was furious about Vidal's claim, and devoted a lot of wind and bluster to refuting it, in vain (in my opinion anyway). As I said, the whole town was laughing about it for weeks.

And LA's a pretty big town.
