Heads up

From some horribly-written article posted over at RimJob's this afternoon:

Six US Aircraft Carrier groups will be on their way to the Persian Gulf within the next month, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates was quoted as saying "It's a reminder for the Iranian Regime."

Of course, considering the source, It's easy to understand that this is completely false.

No-- SIX Carrier Groups are not steaming to the Gulf. There are two there now, one is moving elsewhere, and a third is coming in to replace the second.

IIRC, the US PacFleet (1st and 3rd) only has 6 Carrier Groups total. The US Navy only has 11 Carriers worldwide. The George H.W. Bush is still a PCU, and not deployed.

Of those 11:
1 is not yet a USS Deployable ship.
2 are either in work-ups, or in dry-dock.
1 is in the Caribbean/US coast.
1 is off the coast of west Africa.
1 is in the Mediterranean
1 is the Fifth Fleet-- either in the Mad, Suez/Red Sea, or Persian Gulf.
1 must stay close to America's West Coast as First Fleet.
1 is kept in the Indian Ocean area at all times, but ready to steam west at the drop of a dime.

That leaves the two mentioned above, and they are rotating in a replacement for the second of the two.

The Fifth Fleet is a floater within theater range, and the Sixth's Carrier Group in the Med is able to get off the coast of Israel/Egypt/Lebanon/Syria in a very short time, even if they are near Gibraltar. I was a part of that gru when I was active duty, stationed in Sardinia.

Maximum total of carriers within range-- 4. Only three are truly in a Projection of Power range at the moment.

But, don't get me wrong-- That's still enough to start a war, and put up a decent defensive screen... for a while, anyway.

I'm more concerned about the Amphibious Landing groups that are en route. Marines. At least two groups. Not enough to finish a war.

That's all I know about this, but, it's enough to shoot down this goofy panting. I did a bit of research on the Googles, and found the apparent source via:

Looks like a "misprint" in a fairly vague article at Foxnews.compost to me. Enuff to get the FReeps all het up and dry-humping the Cheetos bag.

Damn, Monkeyfister, that was impressive!

That "Projection of Power" thing got me thinking. . .when I was younger I could do it the whole way across the bedroom.

Is this similar?
Was I a young militarist and didn't even know it?

And are all semen related?

Good work on the intel, Monkeyfister. We wouldn't move six CVBG's anywhere, no matter what happened. Two are quite sufficient to eliminate the Iranian surface fleet and any aircraft that challenged us. Not to mention bombing coastal missile batteries and training camps. The idea of a strike against Iran is to punish them for supporting Islamic knuckleheads in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestinian areas. There will be no invasion of Iran. We'll just take away their military toys and try to kill their leaders. The Marines are either decoys or will be used to seize islands in the Gulf to capture or eliminate the same items.
