Via John at AmericaBlog, who says "While it's difficult to know how the American people will react to this news, it's hard to imagine that people are going to want to say in Iraq if the Iraqis want us to leave. And that the American people are going to support the candidate who wants us to stay in Iraq long after our welcome is over. On so many levels, this is huge."
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told a German magazine he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months.
In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible.
"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes.
Asked if he supported Obama's ideas more than those of John McCain, Maliki said he did not want to recommend who people should vote for. "But, let's face it, McSame is a nut."
"Whoever is thinking about the shorter term is closer to reality. Artificially extending the stay of U.S. troops would cause problems."
"The Americans -- like your bung-hole of a president -- have found it difficult to agree on a concrete timetable for the exit because it seems like an admission of defeat to them. But it isn't," Maliki said.

OK, some of that was me.

Once again Maru you've successfully tapped into the suppressed 'interior dialogue' of the speakers involved! I have no doubt that your dialogue is VERY close to what they're actually thinking, but they can't say because it would be 'politically incorrect' (to authentically use the 'pc' phrase, not in the way it's been falsely co-opted by the right-wing for propaganda purposes).
I would never have guessed. I thought Der Spiegel automatically inserted the words "bung-hole of a" in front of pretzelnitwit whenever referring to boosh.
I'll believe it when I see it. Until then we got nothing.
