I put out food for the birds every day, and get mourning doves, cardinals, grackles, and catbirds coming by along with the tinier guys like nuthatches and yes, tits. But they all have to wait their turn until after the 5 -6 broods of blue jays are finished. Well, one smartass blue jay decided he just couldn't wait till his own brethren were done -- he imitated a farking redtailed hawk's cry so the other birds would vamoose, then came down to nosh. It was amazing and funny at the same time.

Maru, how do your cats enjoy all the birds?
The only one who's bothered by them is Ozzie: he'll hang out at the windows making bizarre errrrring noises.
The only outdoor cat, Gorby, is a mouser. She never even went after the nest of baby robins we had this spring. The blue jays not only ignore her, they'll eat out of her food bowl.
Our 100% indoor cat likes to watch the birds (mostly Mourning Doves, House Finches, Goldfinches, & English Sparrows) on our patio ground feeder and occasionally used to stalk & rush the window and scare them up, then trot off proudly! She doesn't do it too much lately -- intereferes with here napping too much, I guess.
California jays are clever, and absolutely fearless. I saw one steal a piece of cherry pie directly off a friend's fork at a studio commissary once. This bird was definitely one-up on his feathered friends with that hawk cry.
Birds... they're amazing. A gull swooped down and grabbed a whole slice of pizza out of my hand once. The other beachgoers were acting like we were in an Alfred Hitchcock movie, I was LMAO.
