The real pigs are what driftglass calls 'the pig people' -- the vast swath of amerikun public that Rove plays to. Dumber than a box of rocks, they think elections and governance are a reality show, to be judged like a high school popularity contest.
Can any country support such a load of degenerate misfits and survive?....
I alternate between believing that about half the voters are stupid vs believing that they're just dangerously politically lazy. I tend to believe the latter more often than not. Guys I know who can talk/analyze sports teams/situations in depth or be fairly astute businessmen, all of a sudden dredge up the latest campaign poster-line or squawk-radio talking point as a supposed rationale for voting for McInsane or his mentor W/Cheney. I get the feeling that they're not stupid, but they're also NOT SERIOUS about politics as a positive social force in the world.
