Shot across the bow

CNN "reporter" Dan Lothian: We took a look at the video, and it does appear that the president actually bowed to King Abdullah. Did he bow or didn't he?

WH press secretary Robert Gibbs: No. But I think this meeting was like a week ago, right?

LOTHIAN: That's right but this is something a lot of people are talking about today.

GIBBS: I can only imagine it is of great cause and concern for many people struggling with the economy.

I don't think he should have bowed, but that's me.

Whatever happened, it's done and over with, and it's time to move on.

Don't look behind that curtain! Over here. Look at this! Any thing but the real story. Like the one where we are being fleeced by the fucking bankers, still and again. Or the health care crisis, or Afghaninam, or.........

The 'captain BG' is right -- this is just stupid, empty ceremonial shit that these people do all the time. It means virtually nothing to them (and ultimately to us), they just do it out of tradition and protocol, have a photo-op, make a speech, and then they're off to the next venue. IF the media were really interested in helping the 'little guy', they'd put this crap on the back pages with the latest Brittany Spears 'outrage', and focus on the BIG issues.
