I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! We had a terrific thunderstorm which took out one of the big lilacs, so I spent most of yesterday dragging pieces of it into the woods. At least it had finished blooming. Poor tree. Some of its suckers should fill it in if the deer don't get to them, but there are a lot more tasty things coming up for them to eat, like my hostas and daylilies!

Lilacs are one of those plants that love being cut back from time to time.If you have any raggedy stumps, cut it low enough to leave a clean cut. It will come back like gangbusters.
