‘An appalling outburst’

There ARE consequences for behaving so boorishly for once. Wilson may be getting wet, sloppy virtual bjs from Rush Limbaugh and the usual group of idiots, but most everyone else thinks he’s an asshole.

The civility of American political debate has been in decline for some time, but Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina truly stuck a new low Wednesday night…

At least three members of Wilson's advisory committee said they resigned Thursday.

"I didn't personally want to be associated with that sort of inappropriateness toward the president of the United States of America," said J.T. McLawhorn, executive director of the Columbia Urban League, who's served on the group since Wilson formed it a decade ago.

"It's just a sad day for us in South Carolina," McLawhorn said.

In one way, I don't have a big problem with people 'speaking truth to power' if they want to - - but it should be proportionate to the setting. If a government office holder is against the killing of innocent people in boutique wars/occupations and feels a strong moral obligation to speak out/confront the powers-that-be (whether Democrats or Republicans)on that injustice, then I can respect him/her for risking their position to do that. I can recall a few (not many) politicians doing that during the Vietnam War.
However, that's the polar opposite of a hack like Joe Wilson trying to score minor political points by acting like a drunken town-hall health care protester/dupe. Ethically he's on the wrong side of the issue -- even IF any of the bills DID support health-care for illegal immigrants (which they don't) and you were against that, it's hardly a stance to be especially proud of holding... denying desperate people the right to health care. It certainly doesn't rise to the level of warranting interrupting a presidential speech. He deserves all the condemnation he's getting, and all the misfortune his party is suffering for it. And once again, can you IMAGINE if this had been a Democrat yelling up at Bush??

Look, just being South Carolina is a sad day for South Carolina.
