Delegates of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany met with representatives of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for 7 and a half hours on Thursday for talks on Iran's nuclear research program.Juan Cole is correct but naïve. The Bush/Cheney misadministration was never working for any sort of concessions with Iran – the only ‘progress’ they were hoping for was a solid excuse to go in there, humungous guns blazing. But still.
Amazingly, there were signs of significant progress even on the first day, which most seasoned observers had not expected…

You got it EXACTLY right there Maru. I got SO sick of listening to virtually ANY of those assholes in the MSM who solemnly intoned all those cliches about the Bush/Cheney trying to bring 'peace' or 'democracy' to here or there, and how 'sorry' they were about the 'accidental' collateral casualties (even after the 50th incident), but that it was unfortunately 'necessary', etc, etc. And they STILL keep up this crap, even AFTER the whole Iraq War/Invasion has been blatently revealed to have been a setup - - something everyone who hasn't been institutionalized knows by now.
I believe that these current crop of Repuke Neo-Cons do NOT -- in their heart-of-heart -- want 'good times' to prevail because it will possibly cause them to lose their strident base and prevent them from fomenting military actions around the world.
