Trickle THIS

My thoughts exactly

As I now understand it, the budget deficit and the national debt are a huge national crisis, which threaten our future and our very way of life, if the proposal on the table is:

* Aid to the unemployed

* American infrastructure

* Jobs for teachers, firefighters, and police officers

* Retirement security

* Investment in a new U.S. energy policy

* Access to affordable health care for America's families

* Quality public schools and student loans

* Transportation, public works, research and development, childcare, and food stamps

On the other hand, the budget deficit and the national debt are utterly meaningless, and shouldn't even be considered, if the proposal on the table is:

* Tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires

* War

* Infrastructure in Iraq

* an expanded government role in health care through Medicare Part D

* an expanded government role in education through No Child Left Behind
I can only add: ... just cough up those tax cuts, and stop asking any further questions. Maybe you'll get some money from the trickle-down effect.

Egg-fucking-zackly UL ! I can think of a few more items that are NEVER a budget-deficit-creation problem, like:
* Penal institutions
* Police (cause we really need 4 or 5 patrol
cars to give a ticket to speeders! I see this
relatively often..)
* Military spending - -beyond the 'War'
spending you mentioned, even during
so-called peace time. With 700+ military
installations/bases around the world, huge
carrier groups (we have something like 7 of
them and no other country has more than 1),
10,000 nuclear missiles, etc. Unfortunately,
with the bad economy the last 10-15 yrs,
too many people look at the military as a
simple job opportunity, and then they get
sent to one of our botique wars...

I'm sure there are a few others that we've missed.

What SO pisses me off about this is the fucking HYPOCRITCAL INCONSISTENCY (yeah, I know that's redundant) of their views! IF the Reich-wingers were consistently against government spending across the board (say, for instance, INCLUDING being against the massive military spending) in support of deficit reduction, then I could respect their view as an active political theory/policy, though I'd still think it was wrong-wrong-wrong! But to me this inconsistency means that 'spending reductions' and deficit control is NOT their REAL policy, it's merely a distractionary tactic in support of their ACTUAL policy (which is continued wealth redistribution upwards).
