We here in the US need to march in the streets against the corporations that outsource our jobs and the politicians that let them, against the military-industrial complex war profiteers, against the bankers who reap in millions while they kick us out of our houses and charge loan shark fees on credit cards, we need to march against the corruption of our politicians via corporate donations and carry the sign I saw in Tunisia and Egypt - GAME OVER
I say we start at the homes of the Koch brothers. Hundreds of thousands of us. Tell their security personel to put down their weapons and join us or run like hell. Then we make the Koch boys donate all their assets to non-religous charity orgs and let them walk away, penniless. Man, just thinking about it sends a Chris Mathews quiver up my leg.
As much as I hate virtually all things Repukelican, I think it's a mistake --- both philosophically/morally AND tactically --- to advocate a violent type of revolution.
Morally/ethically because we progressive/liberals/leftists (whatever we call ourselves) proclaim that we care about the health & welfare of our fellow man (and most of us DO feel that way, I believe), so advocating for a violent upheaval tends to make that commitment to humanitarian values somewhat 'ambiguous', easily questioned. And we DO have the freedom to vote for virtually anyone in this country. I know that sounds trite, but there ARE Green party and Socialist candidates that are on the presidential ticket every election. We've GOT to get people voting for candidates like these - - - VOTES are the ONLY thing (besides 100s of millions of dollars) that the Demoncrats & Repukelicans understand and respond-to. And ultimately thats what protests DO (IF they are successful) is get politicians to change their voting patterns, so lets skip right to that and avoid the violence. The violence would just distract from the protests and the SCLM loves to focus on violence as part of their sensationalistic approach. (There can be 5 hrs of great speeches and peaceful parades, but one brick through a store window and guess what the 6 o'clock news lead will be?)
Tactically, lets not kid ourselves about the US authoritarians penchant for violence, even against their own people. We the people of the US have armed the US military with world-record expenditures for the last 50 yrs, so they have HUGE amounts of arms at their disposal, way more sophisticated & powerful than anything you or I can get our hands on, even if we leaned in that direction. I have no doubt that the Republican militarist types would vie with each other to have the 'honor' to have tanks run-down protestors, like the Chinese government did in Tianenamen(sic) Square, for example. Or recall Kent State, Jackson State, etc. (Even now there's reports that 150 people have been killed in Egypt).
Also, there's never any guarantee that a military response to widespread violent protests wouldn't result in a military government, even here in the US, especially with the current right-wingers. Recall that back in 2002/2003 that W's minions were floating plans to have the executive branch 'temporarily' take over the government IF there were another terrorist attack, and our SCLM barely mentioned it, so it's not hard to envision that happening.
And may Obameh be the first to so Walk OUTTA HERE!
Where did I mention violence? I am hoping the shear weight of our numbers would be enough.
Indeed, there are peaceful ways, as the Egyptians are trying. However, thanks to our corporate media, there are too many sheeple duped by the corporate media to pull it off.
See: The teabaggers......hearts in the right place, but they are nothing but tools for the corporatocracy.
