Yesterday was the family's game dinner at my parents' house. This is where we basically clean out the freezers in preparation for what the new hunting season will bring, and catch up on the news. Some topics: old graveyards, my nephew's new cat Princess Arianna, local real estate, the wackjob down the road who died and rotted in her house, which then had to be torn down. We totally avoided politics, as none of us were really drunk enough.

The menu:
smoked salmon
sun-dried tomatoes with cream cheese
tuna sashimi
grilled venison rib chops with figs and a cranberry dipping sauce
venison skewers with pancetta and olives
venison tenderloin crostini with portebella mushrooms and pancetta

potato leek soup

pheasant in red sauce served with polenta
pheasant in a white sauce
sauteed mushrooms
sauteed broccoli rabe with garlic
butternut squash au gratin
roasted red peppers with preserved lemons
celeriac remoulade

apple pie a la mode
zabaglione

Wine:
NY State white
Parruso Barolo 1990
Elio Altare "La Morra" Barolo 1989
Grappa: Millefiori
