It's almost breathtaking, the progress we're making!
Baghdad placed under total curfew --

Early morning signaled not the twittering of happy little bluebirds in this Indiana-like town, but huge blasts at the same shrine in Samarra where an attack last year plunged the country into a wave of deadly violence that has killed tens of thousands of people.

The explosions at the revered Askariya shrine could spark a spiral of retaliatory bloodshed. US officials have long worried that a major attack in Iraq could lead to uncontrollable bloodletting, even with the addition of thousands of extra US targets troops.

Fearing bloodshed in Baghdad, the government said it would impose a total curfew in the city from 3 p.m. until further notice.
And as we continue to make significant progress, just three months before progress reports are due Iraq’s leaders have failed to agree on nearly everything. Except the curfew, I suppose.

Fucked fact: we're making so much goddamn progress that 13-15 members of the Iraqi security forces have been arrested in the mosque attack.
