In GOP, growing friction on Iraq, fencepost
Senate dissenters chafe at tactics of Party leaders, leashes

Facing crumbling support for the war among their own members, Senate Republican leaders yesterday sought to block bipartisan efforts to force a change in the American military mission in Iraq.
"Vice" President Cheney summoned some possible islamodefeatosurrendermonkeys to a closed-door Republican luncheon to appeal for party unity in what Sen. Susan Collins called "one of the most frightening momen... uhhhhh, a vigorous debate."

But GOP moderates, who are facing some very angry constituents at home, are looking for ways to save US troo their butts in the next election.
