"How about getting into the land of truth and understanding?"

Really! So when are you going to start?? Digby, reflecting on the asshole media's response to the "Hillary dirt on Obama" nonstory, rightfully says this is "one of the most perfect examples of everything that's wrong with journalism today" --

What information did we learn?

First, we learned about the Bob Novak blind item that accuses Hillary Clinton of "slime" politics and Barack Obama of having some skeletons in his closet that nobody knows about. We then learned that even though his nickname has long been "No-facts" for his lack of attribution in his columns, Bob Novak must be telling the truth now because he proved that he had a real source in Richard Armitage when he outed a CIA agent. Therefore, we can fully trust that the Clinton campaign was behind the story. We also learned about some guy who supported Obama financially who turned out to be a crook and we learned that "it's out there" that Bill Clinton has been schtupping other women, perhaps in London, and that Obama's staff is pimping that around.

Is any of that considered professional journalism? Is any of it remotely necessary for voters to know? Because it reminds me of a boozy lunch with a bunch of bored rich divorcees only less interesting and far more consequential.

Chris Matthews is an imbecile and a scumbag with an obscure personal agenda. Everything he says in that exchange should disqualify him from having a news show.

Exactly. It is shit like Tweety's that drove me away from the TV and the computer for a few days last week. And it never ends. Here are just a few examples of the "liberal media"'s journamalistic integrity over the past few days:

  • Wolf Blitzer referred to Giuliani as "Mr. 9/11," asked 9/11 Commission co-chair Tom Kean "why he didn't go with the candidate who's perhaps the most obvious 9/11 choice."

  • Ignoring own history of smearing Gore, Chris Matthews claimed "Gore got himself in those problem areas" and repeated the smears.

  • Wash. Post article called Giuliani "America's mayor," referred to his "triumphal leadership on Sept. 11"

  • Chris Matthews teased segment by asking whether Clinton is a "She Devil." No, but you're an asshole.
  • Contrary to its own reporting, the NY Times claimed Clinton campaign "struggled to explain whether a tip was left for a waitress"

  • CNN, Chicago Tribune uncritically reported Hastert's claim that he "tried [his] best" to restore "civility"

  • Ignoring Obama's actual statements, CNN and Fox News claimed Obama "waffled" on driver's licenses

  • Fox News' the Big Snowjob runs huge graphic on Iraq: "DEMS VOW MORE FAILURE"

    Talk about failure.
